The Manitoba Farm Building Code was recently announced by Jennifer Howard, Minister responsible for Labour and Immigration and the Office of the Fire Commissioner. Manitoba’s Farm Building Code Regulation will be released on November 1, 2010 at the following address: http://web2.gov.mb.ca/laws /regs/b093e.php .
Quick facts about the new Farm Building Code (FBC) are:
- The Office of the Fire Commissioner will be the only Authority Having Jurisdiction for new farm buildings in Manitoba.
- Even if the local authority normally permits Part 3 construction the FBC will only apply to new buildings or building additions that are greater than 600 m² in area.
- We will be following an F2 or F3 industrial occupancy for farm buildings, with a list of exceptions. For example: farm buildings will not be sprinklered, nor will there be requirements for a hose and standpipe.
Please note that the Manitoba FBC is NOT retroactive.
